Enrique SolanoII Workshop IqGal

26 September 2017

Venue: CESGA (Avda. de Vigo, S/N, Santiago de Compostela)

TITLE: Quantum Computing and Quantum Artificial Intelligence

SPEAKER: Prof. Enrique Solano (University of the Basque Country, Bilbao, Spain)

ABSTRACT: Quantum artificial intelligence and quantum machine learning are based on taking advantage of the properties of quantum physics and quantum computers, such as superposition or entanglement, to realize difficult calculations significantly more efficient than with conventional classical computers. In this manner, all related fields, which may have a huge economic impact in the upcoming decades, will be enhanced with the arrival of quantum computers and other quantum technologies. Quantum platforms can be based on atomic systems, electromagnetic radiation photons, as well as semiconductor and superconducting materials. In this sense, there is a healthy competition among them for technological developments and improvements that allow the codification of quantum information in a robust and scalable way. In this talk, we will pedagogically describe the emergence and the merge of quantum computing paradigms with quantum artificial intelligence and quantum machine learning concepts. At the same time, we will describe the necessity of a hand-in-hand development of quantum hardware with quantum software. Finally, we will evaluate the current possibilities of a variety of quantum platforms to reach the desperately sought useless and useful quantum supremacy.
